Say it isn’t so! But, I guess it’s not too early to be shopping for holiday gifts for friends and family.
I’m not that organized but, I do try to pick up a gift for someone, each time, I go out to shop. This seems to save gas, time, and overspending, easily done in a rush. I add a name or two to my “to do” list for the day, and specifically look for a gift for that person. Then I can really think about what they might like and enjoy the “hunt”, instead of a mad dash grabbing things at the last minute.
I was out and about, looking specifically for gifts for lady friends and relatives, and came across quite a few great gifts for under $20. each. Any of these things I would love, so that’s my barometer of shopping success. If I like it, they will too, (but not always the case, especially with teens). Anyway here’s a few things I’ve found that might give you some gift giving ideas…
- (above) Bath potions, lotions, oils, soaps, (we don’t buy these for ourselves).
- Bath accessories, large scale art piece, candlesticks, handtowels, trays, (adds style).
- Kitchen bowls, glass containers and vases, packaged treats, (love this stuff).
- Interesting boxes, baskets, or vases, (Add interest to a bookcase).
A really good quality bottle of E.V.O.O, (extra virgin olive oil).
- A set of fresh herbs and spices, (throw those old ones away).
- New salt and pepper shakers, (we all need these).
- A fancy bottle of real maple syrup (yum).
A great looking throw or afghan, (over a bed or sofa).
- Some cute holiday handtowels (for the guest bath).
- A pillow to go with her decor, (she’ll love it).
- Closet accessories, padded hangers, boxes, (stylish organization).
An interesting vase, (always tasteful).
- Great smelling candles, (I like cream colored).
- Crystal candlesticks, (yes,under $20.)
- A beautiful picture frame, (insert a poem about your friendship).
A subscription to a favorite magazine, (decorating, for me).
- A pretty scarf, (adds accent to any outfit).
- A cookbook she might have an interest in. (Italian, French, Chinese)
- A simple vase of real or faux flowers, (makes you smile).
Please add to the list of anything under $20. that you would like to get or give to someone. It’s always great to get ideas from others. Love to hear yours!
Thanks so much and happy hunting!
1. Loved all your ideas…..
I liked esp. the magazine subs and frames….
Also how about….
Books
Small clocks
Craft material for their favorite craft or pastime
Lotions and lip balm for those of us already in cold conditions (also gloves, scarfs and hats for winter)
Fun jewelry or hair assessories
My sister always seem to know what I’d like…she can read my mind and see my needs…those gifts come from the heart!
It’s more than the gift…its the time they took to think of you.

3. Hi Dot,
Thanks for submitting a comment to Openhouse, the new HomeGoods blog.
We understand that you have been trying to locate a magazine holder. As an off price retailer, we make every effort to keep our prices low, and our costs down, so that we can pass these savings on to our customers. For this reason, we do not provide a service of tracking merchandise, In addition, we do not have the privilege of ordering specific merchandise from our vendors. To locate the holder, we suggest that you continue to check with the stores in your area directly. We would be happy to provide you with store locations in your area. 4. Thank you Julie,
I loved all of YOUR ideas. Especially the part about taking time to think about the recipient. That’s why I like to start early. It’s nice to think about the person as you shop for them. You feel a little closer to them and it makes shopping easier and more fun with them on your mind.
Thanks for stopping by.

5. Hi Dot,
You’re looking for acrylic magazine holders.
A friend wrote to me after seeing your request and said she saw them at The Container Store. You might check the big office supply stores as well. HomeGoods may carry them also from time to time, so check there also.
Good luck with your search.

9. Hello Brenda,
Welcome, I’m so glad you wrote in. Don’t ever be hesitant to write in, we are all friends here and learn from each other.
I love your idea about using purple or lilac for your Christmas colors. You might pair that with a PEAR green, a great combination. As for finding vases, my first choice is always HomeGoods. Their vases are beautiful and inexpensive. Or, go online and google “purple vases”. you might find some there as well.
I just thought of a photo I have with your Chrismas colors. I’ll try to post that for you to see.
Join us again soon.
