Happy holidays! Can you believe it is already time for cookie baking, holiday decorating and gift-giving? Such a magical time of year! This is my first post at HomeGoods, I am excited about being the featured blogger in November! HomeGoods is one of my most frequented stores so it is a treat for me to be here!
As I was thinking about how to start things off here on the Openhouse blog, I decided that it might be good to begin by introducing myself! My name is Melissa and I am an Interior Design Consultant, a writer for online magazines and my decorating blog The Inspired Room, and as of this week, I am now the Editor for the Home & Garden Channel of the fabulous new online magazine Blissfully Domestic! So, now you know how I keep myself busy and out of trouble! In addition to all of that, my favorite job of all is being a mom of three and wife to my husband of 22 years.
My home is nearly 100% decorated with hand me downs, garage sale finds and HomeGoods goodies. I think it is tons of fun hunting down treasures to create your own look over time! My family and I are actually getting ready to sell our house and move to a new state, and I am looking forward to all the new decorating adventures I’ll have in my new home!
My philosophy is “when life inspires our home, our home will inspire our life.” In spite of the fact that over the next month I will be packing up our belongings and preparing for this move, I am still looking forward to creating a memorable holiday for my family. I’m planning on having a “simple, creative and authentic” holiday…and I cannot wait to bring you all along with me over the next two weeks as I find inspiration to do just that!
The best part about blogging is getting to know new people, so I hope you’ll introduce yourself! Feel free to share ideas, comments or ask questions! See you back here tomorrow!

Buena suerte en esta nueva andadura.

2. I love reading your blog! Question: I’m looking for a tabletop tree to use for our Jesse Tree ornaments but want it to have some character. Any ideas where to find such a tree? Does Home Goods carry anything like that?
I saw one I liked that was metal - very fun, but a bit pricey. It doesn’t have to be evergreen - I’ll know the right thing when I see it!

5. Melissa…
Happy Holidays to you, too!
Time has absolutely flown this year! I can’t believe it’s November, much less nearing the Holidays. Usually the Holidays are filled with cookie baking, parties, dinner with family and friends…but this year will be different. Tom and I are going away for the Holidays!! It’s the first time for both of us (married 3 1/2 years), but I’ve done it before, by myself.
I will still be baking SOME cookies and putting together a Christmas decorating kit to take with us ~ to decorate our B&B room a bit…with our things.
Sounds like your family and mine will be “doing” Christmas ~ alot different than normal this year.
~Blessings,
Jan

I am just learning to decorate with finds now that I am the only adult with a right to make decisions and yes it is loads of fun. I’ve picked up a few pieces from our councils curbside pickup that I am doing up for my garage sale and I am even falling in love with them. I love your blog and read it everytime so will look forward to further reading your writings.Cherrie

I found you here from your blog entry today. Great job here. I’m so glad to see that you will be sharing here, too. I just found HomeGoods near our airport (near your home, too). How did I live without knowing where to find them?
Your comment “when life inspires our home, our home will inspire our life” strikes a chord with changes I’m making in our home. That’s a good thought to keep in mind while I work toward the end goal.
I’ll be back to see what you have to share here. Thanks for your inspiration.

So, I’m not your first comment but I wanted to tell you congrats on all of your promotions. You’re quite an accomplished girl! (we all know it’s because you have a wonderful heart and a keen eye for design). I’ll be back again. I’m an authentic living kinda lady. There are unique challenges that surface with large families and I’m glad your design principles account for that. I just can’t measure myself against someone else because my “living challenges” are unique. Thanks for the gift of inspiration! Love you!!!

112. Thank you for the inspiration you provide. I live in a small home filled with hunted treasures and I love it. I love reading blogs like yours that showcase the unique and one of a kind over the cookie cutter boring we so often see.

113. Melissa, I am thrilled to be reading you here, one of my favorite decorating inspiration spots, along with your very inspirational blog, “The Inspired Room.” I especially love all of the ideas you and your blogger friends give those of us who own small homes. My daughter and her husband own a mcmansion but my daughter still shops at Home Goods — although she has a lot more area and rooms to shop for and closets full of things she can recycle than I do. I enjoy shopping with her there to find items to mix with our own hand-me-downs.
I look forward to reading your featured blog here the next two weeks and seeing how you put together a memorable holiday for your family.
Blessings,
Victoria in Texas

116. I Melissa, I love your toile chair. I’m planning my kitchen to be with toile seat covers, tiles, and any other finds. Please let me know about any cheap place to find anything toile.
Thank You,
Marcia
