So, how’s it going? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the thought that Thanksgiving is only a week and a half away? Has the countdown to Christmas given you nervous stomach and sleepless nights?

My goal this year is to be calm, cool, and collected throughout the holiday season. I may not end the year with the knowledge that perfect serenity followed me each and every day, but I have decided that the goal is an admirable one none the less.

I have begun by keeping a detailed calendar. I am a terrible procrastinator, and organization is not my forte. However, I am determined that with the proper amount of planning and preparation, and the help from my friends here at HG Openhouse this year is going to be diffrent. No last minute melt downs for me!

I began by scheduling the days I want to decorate, bake, and shop. Next to those days I have a page listing thoughts and ideas, where to find recipes, and shopping lists.

I have crossed out travel days. On those pages I am beginning to list items to pack, and things to do to leave an organized home for my return. Reminders to stop the mail, make reservations for us and the dog, etc.

I have also scheduled and planned for get togethers at our home, as well as parties to attend. On the page next to these planned activities I am listing thoughts on what I might wear, menus and shopping lists for events at home, and hostess gift ideas as well as things to take along when visiting.

Hopefully these few ideas will help you enjoy a less chaotic holiday this year. I also found a couple more helpful sites to make your planning more enjoyable and maybe even give you another idea or two.

Digital Photography School – offers 16 Digital Photography Tips for Christmas I loved the photos and suggestions on this site. Beautiful photographs make such wonderful memories. Okay not so beautiful ones make fun memories, too. BTW don’t forget to buy some extra frames to have on hand for last minute gifting of some of your favorite pictures.

My favorite site this week has been Organized Christmas This site offers gift ideas, planning tips, budget helps, and recipe suggestions.

So plan and prepare, but most of all have fun! I am so hoping to regain that childlike sparkle in my eye that simply enjoys the holiday season, and not the overwhelmed mom that is frustrated because I can’t seem to get it all accomplished.

Please share your tips for planning and preparation during this the busiest time of the year. I am looking for all of the help I can get!!

1. Oh, yes, that childlike sparkle! Christmas did seem a lot different when we were kids without all the responsibility! But I think you are right, if we get organized and plan ahead, we can still have some of the childlike wonder during the season!
