I saw a clip from The View from last week and had to laugh. The View ladies were talking about Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s experience at HomeGoods. Elisabeth shared that was thrilled to have found a great deal on Thanksgiving napkins while shopping at HomeGoods. Long story short, her husband was with her and he didn’t have the patience to finish the shopping trip so she left without her turkey napkins. Oh, I would not be happy to leave my napkins in the cart! As Elisabeth says in the clip, you can’t come back for them later, they may not be there the next time you go! So true!

You can watch the video clip by clicking this YouTube link (and notice Joy’s tip about shopping with husbands…it might remind you of my shopping method! I think she is definitely on to something, I’ll remember her suggestion the next time my husband shops with me).

Speaking of the excitement in finding great HomeGoods holiday napkins, the last time I was in the store I too found some prized holiday napkins! No, I didn’t see any turkey ones. But I found Country Living Christmas ones! I was just as thrilled as Elisabeth was about her turkey ones, but thank goodness my husband was not shopping with me and I could stay long enough to buy them.

Hostess Gift Wrap Idea

Have you ever thought about using holiday napkins for more than just the dinner table? Cloth napkins make a lovely wrap for a bottle of sparkling cider, wine, a candle or any hostess gift for a holiday party. And I think the holiday napkins are much more classy than the usual paper bag.

I made up a little hostess gift simulation so you could see my napkins. I tied a cookie cutter on my ribbon because that is what I had on hand, but you could use a gift tag, a wine bottle opener or a little holly twig. Very easy!

So, did any of you buy the turkey napkins?

Since this is the beginning of the holiday party season, what are some of your favorite hostess gifts? I’d love to hear your ideas!

1. I really enjoyed this post including the YouTube of The View. Shopping with hubby is not so much fun! Honestly, my husband does not say a thing about anything I buy but that is because he rarely enters a store and thinks everything costs $5.99. We sort of have the unspoken rule around here of “Don’t ask, dont’ tell.” So on the rare occasions that I do take him along I like going to places like HomeGoods where the prices are truly amazing. They actually keep the myth he believes going strong about prices. Since I shop all the time for my business I know prices very well and I can often be found chuckling when I see the prices at other retailers. I hope HomeGoods is around forever and they keep the same great buyers and prices.

I am into that store for so much as I have stocked my staging warehouse with their things. I honestly owe them a debt of gratitude for helping to make my business successful.

it is fun for me to come here and see my favorite blogger talking about my favorite store! Thanks, Melissa!

2. Lovely ideas- I went to Home Goods on Friday and found many little treasure- they had the cutest little lunch and dessert plates- I plan to use them by putting a cheese ball on the plates and wrapping with clear paper- tied with a bow and Christmas tree cheese knife – {christmas tree cheese knife- fun find, also from Home Goods} they make great hostess gifts.

3. I’ve done this many times but usually it’s a dish towel to wrap a wedding gift.

4. I do not want my husband with me when I shop….even when I give him a task he finishes it too quickly and immediately starts to give me “the face”…..so not worth it! I like to take my time and enjoy looking around, by myself.

What a great idea to wrap up a gift w/holiday napkins. That would be a nice way to jazz up a grab bag gift or hostess gift. Thanks!

8. Laurie, yes, a dish towel would be cute to wrap a gift! I did a post here awhile back about using a dish towel as a napkin too. It is fun to think outside the usual uses:-) Thanks for the idea!

10. I ‘cured’ my husband of shopping with me years ago and it makes life so much easier. He complained once about how much I spent on a gift for someone in his family and I told he he could do the shopping next year if he could do better. Ever since then he doesn’t complain one bit. I just send him to play golf and go on my way. All he has to do is pay for it and help bring it into the house. He knows that I will find a bargain when I can.

13. Oh….I think anyone who truly loves the thrill of the find at HomeGoods/TJMaxx/Marshalls remembers the first time they thought to themselves…”I’ll just come back for these LATER…” only to discover they were no more & they are gone, of course! I learned a long time ago that if I really loved something to put it in my buggy & ponder it while I looked around the store some more, because you can always put it back! It’s a hard lesson to learn.

14. I’m not computer savvy, so I won’t be adding a photo to my comments; however, I had once seen a decorative gold place setting that I wanted to use on on my dining room table for the holidays. The problem was that it cost much more than I wanted to pay. Imagine my delight when I wnet to my local Home Goods store to brows and found the most beautiful plates with a gold Greek key design. They were only five dollares each and I only needed four. When I showed the plates to my friends, they all agreed that the Home Goods plates looked much better than the more expensive plates I had once considered ordering from a catalog. I’m thrilled becaue I have a beautiful table AND I have more money to spend on other things. Way to go Home Goods!

15. I bought the same beautiful country living napkins have used them to bring a bit more color to my kitchen. I think I will even keep them out all year. They dont scream Christmas and imagine with yellow for summer entertaining.

For now my favorite gift this year is to tie one around a bottle of peppermint flavoring and tie a bottle stopper around the top with raffia. Great gift for under 20 and looks like a million!
