Some of my all time favorite items for entertaining and decorating are cake stands. Their usefulness never ceases to amaze me! Because I love things that can serve more than one purpose, cake stands are the perfect versatile choice for year round entertaining and decorating.

A cake stand can elevate (no pun intended!) a simple dessert into a fancy delicacy.

You can put almost anything on a cake stand and you have an instant centerpiece!

I used cake stands everywhere at my daughter’s wedding reception this summer. From holding candles to candy to flowers to food, cake stands were everywhere!

Another thing I love about cake stands is the way they give height and drama to a table or buffet. Putting your food or decorations on different levels looks very chic and fun!

Double or triple stack cake stands for hors d’oeuvres or to create a fancy centerpiece.

I love the photo of the pumpkins on the buffet table. You can even make stands using plates and various pedestals. Just secure with sticky tack! (photo: Country Living)

Use cake stands every day, don’t save them for special occasions! I have one on my entry table, three in my dining room, two in my kitchen and one in the bathroom to hold soaps. I even have one in my office! I’d much rather see and use them every day than to try and find a way to store them.

In my opinion, you can’t have too many cake stands! And around the holidays, they are indispensable. They also make great gifts!

Do you have cake stands? I’d love to hear how you use them — free to upload photos if you have them!

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. Great post, Melissa!

I’m going to try to make a run to HomeGoods/Marshall’s today. I found three Christmas accent plates, last week, at a store in another town and now the hunt is on for more.

2. Great idea! A good reason to look for them at HomeGoods, etc. I have just one and it has rabbits decorating it…purchased for Easter. But maybe just maybe I can still use it for the Thanksgiving table.

3. I do like cake stands, but they are so difficult to store – they take up a lot of room! I sometimes make my own with stemware and glass plates, held with a little ticky tack.

7. I just came into possession of two new-to-me cakestands. One from Marshall’s and one is a hand-me-down from my mom. They will both be incorporated into my Christmas decorating.

And youre right…it’s much easier to just use them than to try and store them.

8. i just saw the idea of repurposing cake plates. i also repurpose them. in the spring i put some short fresh flowers on 1 & put lid back. in fall, i use 1 for pine cones & some fall ribbon, etc. i haven”t decided yet what to use for xmas, altho im sure it will involve some glittery snow.

11. And to think I gave one away…sigh…before I entered the blogging world and realized that I could have painted over the 70’s country blue bird on the side. :)
