Make Reindeer Dust to sprinkle on their lawn on Christmas Eve. Just mix oats and glitter (or colored sugar) and voila…you’re ready to attract Santa’s reindeer to your house!
We had my daughters birthday party this past weekend, and included the magic dust in the goodie bags. To help explain what it is, I printed out these cute little cards with a poem explaining its use (click to enlarge).
You can also package it in a pretty stocking or festive mug for presentation. The kids love it! Plus kids like getting something before Christmas – after all, they’re about to burst with excitement, so this gives them something to do. (Click here for more birthday party pics).
1. I used to tell Laura and Jenni the raindeer dust was to help Santa find our house and it gave the raindeer something to eat while they waited for Santa. That worked for a while…LOL

2. Hi Becky – they grow up way to fast, don’t they! Last year we forgot to dust the lawn, and my older daughter came running down the stairs at midnight when she remembered – almost caught santa in the act!

3. At my children’s school they train to be replacement reindeer in Reindeer Camp during PE. (k-4th grade) and then they leave their RC certificate out with Santa’s milk & cookies. The only way to tell if they have helped as a fill-in reindeer is if they are sore and tired Christmas morning. Sooooo, we help that out a bit by using some of the Reindeer Dust as a trail from their beds to the fireplace. It is pretty funny when they realize they made such a mess as a reindeer! Of course, a quick thank you note from Santa, next to the clean plate and empty mug adds to it!
I really enjoy this time of year and I’m not looking forward to them growing up and learning the truth (as their friends see it). I love Santa as much as they do! (Maybe more! LOL!)
Thank you for sharing this! Merry Christmas!

4. Hi Katherine – Oh my goodness, what a hoot! Thanks for sharing! Now who cleans up the mess?
Have a wonderful (and magical) holiday (sounds like you already are!).
