Seriously.

The daily news media with all of it’s updates on stocks, housing prices and unemployment rates have us watching our pennies and thinking of ways to cut corners, whether we have been laid off or not. Times are tough, yes. But I think tough times can stimulate creativity and force us to think outside of the little box we usually think in.

It’s exactly times like these when we all need to take a second look into our china cabinets, our bookcases and closets and even into our home offices. Remember those old martini glasses up in the top cupboard gathering dust? They’d work perfectly to hold dessert tonight in an extraordinary way. (even if it is something as simple as vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of chocolate syrup, or some snowball cookies.) Add everyone’s initial’s made out of cut out cardstock, or glittered letters if you have them (…and lots of us do! Might as well enjoy them!)  Get out the cloth napkins if you don’t usually use them, (What are you waiting for anyway? Every day is special, after all.) light some candles, leave the television off for a change and put on your favorite music tonight after a hard day’s work. (whether you work at home, or downtown…) Add a little charm to the day and the evening, (without spending a dime) and you’ll find that things won’t feel quite so desperate after all.

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

1. I love the idea of this post. We all need to treat ourselves, if only with what we save for only ’special’ occasions. When all we hear is doom and gloom, having a festively set table (and thriftily decorated home) can lift our moods.
