Looking around my home today, I mean REALLY looking around my home, I found so many SIMPLE things that make me happy. There are so many little things that I have used decorating my home that makes me smile. Most of these little things cost very little. You can click on the pictures to enlarge for detail.

All it takes is some tweaking to make your home a little more special. Tassels are one of those little things. You can hang a tassel on a kitchen cabinet knob or a hutch door knob. They look great hanging on a lamp switch or even on a robe hook on the back of your bathroom door. Click on any picture to enlarge to view details.

Another simple pleasure is art. Not just any art, but art by a local street artist, you purchase while on vacation. I purchased this water color while on vacation in Tuscany last spring. The original water color cost $15. I bought a frame and mat from a local craft store. It now hangs in my dining room and brings back warm, wonderful memories of that trip. You can do the same thing with a photograph from a recent vacation.

Your don’t need to spend alot of money to bring pleasure into your life. These are some of my simple pleasures…what are yours?

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

4. What a wonderful find for $15! I love “real” art, too. Thankfully, I have family members who dabble and so have a number of nice pieces that I truly enjoy. Looks like all I need is a tassel!

7. Miy simple pleasures are much like your own. I did the same thing you did recently..found an oil painting of an adorable rooster, frame and all and am repainting the frame. I LOVE it and it only cost $19.00. What fun it is to do things like that. Like you mentioned, it is in the details, the little things that make your home reflect who you are and make it so personal. I love tassels also. I am bringing black more and more into my home. What a great accent it makes. It seems there is no end to how you can enhance and change things with just some little something that costs very little and sometimes costs nothing at all. A can of spray paint and you are in business. I enjoyed Simple Pleasures very much!

10. Mama loved tassels…this post brought her to mind! I love that idea about the artwork, too. I have several loving watercolors I purchased of Charleston Battery and Rainbow Row which I have framed and hanging in the dining room. My sister found table mats so attractive that she did the same thing with them.

11. Hi Penny,

What a great idea to hang a tassel in the kitchen. I see darling ones everywhere, and have never been sure what do to with them. Love all of your creative ideas. Thank you for sharing.

12. Penny, your style is similar to mine. I love French Country, especially for the kitchen/dining area. In the first picture you showed us — the one with the tassle — I noticed the border of a plate. I think I have that same set of dishes. It’s the Devonshire pattern, and has roosters on some plates and roosters and chickens on others. The plates are white with a red checked border. Are those the same plates you have? Could you post a picture of your kitchen? I know it is adorable and could provide much inspiration for us who love French Country. Just wanted to ask one question. I’m looking for appropriate artwork for over my sofa, and I’d like something in the FC style. My fireplace wall is red with an ebony mantle, and I have an ebony-framed mirror above the mantle. On the mantle (on either side) I have tall, buffet lamps in a silvery finish, with black and white toile shades. All other walls in my living room are tannish and the sofa is in a camel color. Like Cathy, I have a black, white and red theme going on in my house. In fact, you can see my kitchen/dining area from the living room, so I’ve used accents of red in the living room (red throw pillows, etc) to make these area flow. But, I have no artwork whatsoever in the living room — just the mirror over the mantle. I just don’t know what to use, but I know it needs to be French Country in feel. Should I use one of those metal grid-type wall hangings or what? Do you mind suggesting what you’d use? I love your style.

13. I really love tassels too. My husband always says I would decorate him with one if he stood still long enough. My daughter always challenges friends to “count the tassels” in our home. I like how the black and white tassel compliments your dishes. I have them hung on a wine cabinet in the kitchen, hutch in the dining room, coming out of the pages of a large old book, and on lamps to name a few. Great site.
