File with Style

Several of my clients like to tear recipes out of magazines or print them off the internet. The problem is that the recipes get lost in piles of paper and can’t be found when needed. So, here is one solution I created for a client to help her “file in style” in the kitchen.

I used a decorative cookbook stand I found at Homegoods for under $15.00 and paired it with some decorative file folders I found in the clearance section (it’s positively criminal how cheap they were) and I printed labels for each category of recipes she gathers. The end result– a simple, inexpensive and stylish solution to dealing with all those loose pages of recipes. (click on photos to enlarge)

Table top file boxes are another great way to file in the kitchen and come in acrylic, faux leather, fabric and even chrome (for those of you with industrial style kitchens). Choose a style to complement your kitchen decor and the file box will blend in rather than sticking out on your table or counter top.

So, if papers of any kind are piling up in your kitchen, think about creating a file system that is close at hand. I’d love to see/hear about your clever solutions for “filing with style” in the kitchen.

1. Does anyone know of the whereabouts of dishes with lacy doily design in pink with catalog number #9201 style #383679. I purchased four of these at the Vacaville, California store and would like more of them. Thanks, Sue

2. Hi Joan,

What a great idea! I currently keep a (boring) file folder by my cookbooks in the pantry, but then I have to sift through them to find what I’m looking for.

I “Love” this idea for filing recipes! I’m a great one for tearing recipes from magazines or getting them from the ‘net’. This would be great in my kitchen!
