Last November I blogged about a lovely “girls” weekend with my friends in NC. While visiting a spa, I was very taken with a meditation “nest” created at the end of a hall for clients to relax in between treatments. It was full of pillows and inspirational books to peruse. (click here to see more pics from that post).
Well, I finally found a nook of my own where I can retreat. Well, sort of. Ok, so I carved out a piece of the bonus room (a.k.a. playroom, guest room, upstairs family room), but it still counts! I had blogged a while back about my multi-use bonus room (click here to see that post).
By switching the guest corner with the play nook (and switching the guest bed with my daughter’s bed) I was able to create my own “kid-friendly” version of the meditation nest. I’m sure you could make a more peaceful version with “grown up” pillows.
This space also serves as the guest quarters (there is a trundle bed underneath). It actually has more privacy than where it was before, but I may need to add some window treatments since the sun rises on this side of the house.
Here’s what the nook looked like before:
So what will I use this nest for? Probably reading my favorite design magazines while the kids are playing. Now that’s multi-tasking I can really enjoy!
So what do you think…does it bear any resemblance to the spa version?

Where do you retreat in your home?
1. I’ve always wanted to do this. I have a hobby room but it’s not for relaxing and reading, but that’s where I go to get away! Love your photos!

2. Hey LD! Isn’t it wonderful to get away right in your own home! If only I could get the kiddo’s to respect the “cone of silence” - LOL

3. I love this idea and your nook is perfect, especially with all the sun it seems to get. Since one of my children seems to have flown the coop, I have been working on turning her room into a relaxing place to soak up the rays and read during the cold winter days.

4. Your creation is so beautiful. Can you share with me how you hung the gorgeous curtains?

5. Hi Ginny…what a wonderfully fun project! I like the sun too…it’s a great way to get my Vit D during these cold month!
Hi MJ…I can’t take credit for the curtains…that was at the Chakras Spa in Greensboro, but it served as my inspiration!

7. Thanks Emma & Don…I really hope you like it because this is where you’ll be sleeping next time you come visit the grandkids!
Think I should add a window shade?
