Meditation NestLast November I blogged about a lovely “girls” weekend with my friends in NC.  While visiting a spa, I was very taken with a meditation “nest” created at the end of a hall for clients to relax in between treatments.  It was full of pillows and inspirational books to peruse. (click here to see more pics from that post).

Well, I finally found a nook of my own where I can retreat.  Well, sort of.  Ok, so I carved out a piece of the bonus room (a.k.a. playroom, guest room, upstairs family room), but it still counts!  I had blogged a while back about my multi-use bonus room (click here to see that post).

RetreatBy switching the guest corner with the play nook (and switching the guest bed with my daughter’s bed) I was able to create my own “kid-friendly” version of the meditation nest.  I’m sure you could make a more peaceful version with “grown up” pillows.

This space also serves as the guest quarters (there is a trundle bed underneath).  It actually has more privacy than where it was before, but I may need to add some window treatments since the sun rises on this side of the house.

Play NookHere’s what the nook looked like before:

So what will I use this nest for?  Probably reading my favorite design magazines while the kids are playing.  Now that’s multi-tasking I can really enjoy!

So what do you think…does it bear any resemblance to the spa version?

1. I’ve always wanted to do this. I have a hobby room but it’s not for relaxing and reading, but that’s where I go to get away! Love your photos!

2. Hey LD! Isn’t it wonderful to get away right in your own home! If only I could get the kiddo’s to respect the “cone of silence” - LOL

3. I love this idea and your nook is perfect, especially with all the sun it seems to get. Since one of my children seems to have flown the coop, I have been working on turning her room into a relaxing place to soak up the rays and read during the cold winter days.

5. Hi Ginny…what a wonderfully fun project! I like the sun too…it’s a great way to get my Vit D during these cold month!

Hi MJ…I can’t take credit for the curtains…that was at the Chakras Spa in Greensboro, but it served as my inspiration!

7. Thanks Emma & Don…I really hope you like it because this is where you’ll be sleeping next time you come visit the grandkids! :)

Think I should add a window shade?
