Thank-you gifts are tricky. Go too “over the top” and you’ll make the recipient feel uncomfortable. Go too cheap and you’ll appear insincere. So what is the perfect thank-you gift to show your hostess, a neighbor, a colleague, or a friend how much you appreciate what they’ve done for you? Think about the last thank- you gift you received that was “just perfect” — do you remember why?
For me, I think that tiny treasures make excellent thank- you gifts. Even if you spend a lot of money on a tiny treasure it will say classy, not flashy. And if, like most of us, you are on a budget you can get a lot of bang for your buck by buying small. Here are a few of my favorite gifts that say thank you:
1. A unique toothpick holder (I received this one for helping my sister pack up her in-laws home. It was from her mother-in-law’s pottery collection and it remains a special memory of her).
2. A beautiful place card holder.

3. A pair of exquisite napkin rings.
4. Wine glass charms (choose a design that has special meaning for the recipient for an extra wow).

5. A pill container. I have this charming one from a friend with a flower-fairy motif and it is a sweet reminder of how we’ve cared for each other over the years.
6. A beautiful paperweight.
Do you have any tiny treasures that delight you? What’s your favorite thank-you gift?
1. I love to give a little “Willow” angels as a thank you gift. They are so sweet and simple, and yet so expressive.

3. I would have to say one of my favorite thank-you gifts was a beautiful handwritten note inside a floral card. I found the note inside my mailbox and it was from my friend Joan. What made it so special was that it was a surprise and that she took the time to find just the right card to represent our friendship. She also took time to write a personal note defining the specialness of our time together. The card just made my day and her thoughts sat with me for a long time. Joan seems to know just the kind of cards that cheer you up and I often frame them and prop them on my desk for a change of scenary! A simple, but true gift from the heart.

4. Terry, you are very blessed to have such a special friend and I agree that sometimes the best thank you gift are words that express how much you and/or your actions have blessed the recipient. Thanks for sharing this reminder that sometimes a beautiful handwritten note or card is the perfect way to say thank-you.

5. Joan,
I too, look for inexpenisve ways to show appriciation. One of my favorites for the holidays, is to find an exquisite tea cup and saucer, put in one of my homemade pommander balls (clove studded oranges) and wrap with cello and a beuatiful ribbon. I also find unique bottles and prepare cranberry sage vinegars, easy recipe, and agian, a wrap with cello and a beautiful ribbon makes for a special gift presentation. I fill beautiful jars with homemade chutneys and jams. I look for raised cake pedestals to present my easy to make rum cake for my clients. I have a basket at my front door with wrapped vinegars for friends and family that stop over during the holidays. If I recieve an unexpected gift, I always have something near to give back!

6. Jodie: Thanks for sharing your creative gifting ideas. I especially love the cake plate with cake on it.
I’m always drooling over new cake plates at HG but one can only own so many — picking them up as gifts with a cake atop them is a neat idea — I might just have to do that for a few folks this Christmas!
And a basket with wrapped vinegars? My goodness you are one clever lady.
Thanks so much for sharing.
