Just in case you’ve forgotten, I was the crazy blogger who started redecorating her living room over the holidays and we’re not talking about the tree. You can see phase one here.
Phase two was to rearrange the furniture to give a more open feel to the room which meant first replacing some of the furniture. So we’ve been patiently waiting (okay, maybe one of us was not so patient) for furniture to come and go.

We sold the old love seat on Craig’s list and at long last, our new chairs have arrived. The new leather chair was chosen to match our existing chair (which is no longer available) and it matches pretty well wouldn’t you say? We think this new arrangement highlights the lovely bay window.
On the other side of the room we added a slipper chair. We love how the color and pattern of the fabric blends so beautifully with the new rug and it’s a fun design (click on any of the photos to enlarge).

We moved our glass table next to the slipper chair for now. It may not be the “perfect” match, but I think it works. I was inspired by a photo I saw in a magazine featuring a glass lamp base atop a glass table. I thought it would look perfect on my table too, but the lamp shown was worth a lot of bucks (too many for my budget).
Imagine my excitement when I found an almost identical version at HG. The shade wasn’t right (see the original shade below) but even after I changed the old white shade out for a new gold one I ended up paying a third of what the original lamp cost. Gotta love those HG bargains. We changed up the lamp shade on our other lamp to match so now they are both a soft gold silk.

Phase 3 will be layering the room with some accessories. I’m thinking about pulling the red tone out of the carpet for some pillows and throws. I think it will give the room a needed punch of color. What do you think, am I on the right track? Any other ideas for completing our look?

3. Hi Joan,
Your living room is looking sooo good! The leather chairs look great in the bay window with that beautiful color on the walls. Sharp! The slipper chair looks great with that, to-die-for area rug. Great looking lamp and tripod table. A little red (from the rug) would look good in pillows etc. like you said, keep the purple in there as well. Down the road, maybe add two built-in, floor-ceiling bookcase/cabinet pieces in the niches next to the fireplace. Great storage and interest on that focal wall.
You are just all decked-out here! The room has come together beautifully! How proud you must be.
Great job Joanie!!

4. Thanks, Cathy, for your kind comments. Yes, we’d love built-ins SOMEDAY, but for now I need to call a halt on any more major expenditures and let the budget recover. We are debating new window treatments down the road too and eventually a new couch. But for now, we are pretty content with what we’ve got.

5. Joan,
I really like your leather chairs, may I ask where you bought the one with the pillow on the seat.
Thank you

6. Hi Cat: thanks, we really like the new leather chair too. We purchased it at Stickley Audi Furniture. They do have a website you can check out and I believe it’s called the “chino” chair.

7. Joan - Your room looks lovely and the leather chairs look perfect in the bay window area. When company arrives, a try on the ottoman will add extra space for munchies. I just LOVE the rug. I zoomed in and saw the teal and rust/red colors. Since those are my favorite colors, I would have to try accessories in those shades to bring them out in the rug. The rug is the perfect template to draw from. What fun it will be. The slipper chair is lovely and I love how the circle design in the fabric brings out the circle shapes in the lamp and shape of the table. The gold lamp shades on opposite sides of the room balance out the room nicely. I could use your help with my space!! I can’t wait to see Phase 3. Very nice job. Your hard work and searching has paid off.

8. Hi JR — thanks for your encouraging words and great advice. I like the idea of a tray for the ottoman in one of the accent colors. Teal, eh? I’ll have to think on that one. Definitely looking for the red. Thanks for commenting,

10. I think you new look is great but to me the chairs are rather large for the size of the table you have between them, perhaps a round table with colored scarf would fill in the space and balance of the size of your chairs. Just a thought —Use some greenery in your room fake or real it always warms up the space your dealing with.

11. Hi Cher: Thanks for your suggestions. I’ve not had a lot of luck with indoor plants so I do add “fresh cut” flowers whenever I can spare a little change for them. Fake are so tempting but then there’s the problem of dusting them. LOL.
I think a round table would be nice too but my husband is pretty attached to the snuggler table at the moment — maybe down the road. He was once very attached to the love seat but then he couldn’t get it out of here fast enough. LOL. All in good time, eh? thanks for taking the time to comment,

When it comes to dusting fake plants use those Clorox wet clothes, they really work great and you can just throw them away when your done, I totally understand about Husbands getting attached to the way things are and are not so much into change—just one of those things you have to pick your battles. Have a good weekend and thanks for the fun pictures.

13. try moving the chairs wider apart more facing each other and place the ottoman in between and take advantage of the outside view

14. Cher: Thanks for the tip on dusting fake plants. I never would have thought of using those. I’ve been thinking a lot, however, about adding some more permanent plant life in here so stay tuned for Phase 3 when my accessorizing is complete.

15. Hi Gwen:
Thanks for sharing that great alternative for setting up the chairs in the bay window. For now we need them both to be facing into the room to allow for conversation with guests as well as for watching TV but there may come a time when your arrangement would work well. That’s the problem with decorating — it’s usually function over form in our house ( : But I’ll keep your suggestion in mind for down the road — might make a nice change.

16. Hi Joan,
Your bay window area of your living room is definitely charming and should be played up even more. One way to do that is to stencil a border in a tree design (like the tree in your rug) on the wall above your 3 windows. The stencil design would look fine in just one color such as an ivory. Then, get some valances or something for the windows, add your accessories and the room will be warm and inviting.

17. Hi Joan,
Where can I view the accent chairs that you carry? -I’m particularly interested in a wing chair.

19. Hi Linda:
Although HG doesn’t have their products on-line or carry specific items all the time they do have a great selection of accent chairs. But you have to check at your local store often as they get some great new furniture in every week (sometimes new stuff every day) and you just never know what you’ll find or when the “perfect” accent chair will turn up.

20. Hi Marianne:
I apologize for my delay in responding to your comment — was away on vacation and just returned. The stencil idea is a neat one (I’ve been thinking of ways I might repeat the tree of life symbol in the room) and I’ll keep it in mind. Yes, we are debating on window dressings. We get limited light through the front windows so want to keep them as open as possible but I think some fabric would work — stay tuned. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas.

21. Hah, I thought I was the only nut who would redecorate during the holidays. My husbad started to re-paint the livingroom ON Thanksgiving Day 2007 and finished on Thanksgiving Day 2008. Didn’t paint a thing in the months in between. From Thanksgiving until the week before Christmas 2008 I re-upholstered a chair, re-created a coffee table into a padded upholstered piece and bought new furniture. By the way, I love the two leather chairs in front of the windows. I love it when people play up those architectural differences. The very square chairs play up the rounded area very well.

22. Yes, Pam, there’s more of us holiday decorating nuts out there. I’ve been visiting the folks for Easter and my whole family was decorating over this holiday too. I think it’s genetic in my case. LOL.
Would love to see a picture of your new livingroom. We are really happy with the two chairs in the bay window too — just opened up the room there and really highlighted the lovely window. Thanks for dropping by and next time you start redecorating during the holidays remember I’m probably doing the same. LOL.
