Try this with me – stand in your kitchen, and count how many different rooms you can see from there.  (Go ahead, I’ll wait!) ;)

How is the flow between the rooms?  Now it would be boring to decorate all the rooms exactly the same, but they do need to play well together.  While there are many ways to do this, one easy way is with a common decorative element.

Here is an example using variations of black and white flowers through art and accessories (click pics to enlarge).

In the kitchen, I framed a series of inexpensive greeting cards in stainless box frames and hung them underneath the cabinets. –>

I also reframed an abstract flower photo print in a black frame in the breakfast nook area.

In the family room, I added a couple of framed flower sketches on the mantle (in gold frames).

The pillows followed the same theme for my favorite chair in the family room.

In the bathroom, a simple black and white photo of paper whites almost makes up for the fact there is no window.

It’s a subtle way to connect adjoining rooms without getting too “matchy-matchy.”

What other ways have you brought neighboring rooms together?

2. I used color to connect the rooms in my home. My living room is painted red. In the dinning room I added red accents. The red plates in the hutch, red vase in the picture that hangs in there and red glass beads in a clear vase on the buffett. In my kitchen I changed it up a little and used cranberry accents. Crandberry mats around the pictures. Cranberry candle cups and cranberry accent tile in my back splash.

4. Hey Jolanda! Oooh, I love cranberry! I bet that looks fab! Another perk for red is that it is such a strong holiday color! Thx for commenting!

6. Hey Julia – yea, I’m everywhere (he he he). I love using black and white. In fact, my daughter just asked for some black/white in her room. Will post those pics later (not done yet!).
