I love all those beautiful bathrooms in magazines. Everything is calm, clean and decorated beautifully, not a glob of toothpaste stuck to the sink, anywhere in sight. Those visions of chic spa hotel bathrooms soon dance in your head. As you snap back to reality, you wonder how your bath got so out of control. It’s called, the reality of daily living. Bathrooms work hard for families, and counter clutter seems to collect continuously. Just like in any room, contain the clutter and life becomes less stressful and more relaxing.
Once clutter is stored out of sight… countertops can shine, physically and decoratively. It’s always nice to add at least one area of decoration on top of the counter. It’s refreshing, orderly, and peaceful to view. If you shop around your home, you probably can find some great accessories to add that special spa appeal to your bath. Here are a few ideas to consider…
Add some height, add something natural, and add something soft.
- For height, use candlesticks, tall glass apothecary jars, or a tall piece of art or sculpture.
- For something natural, add plants, flowers, sea sponges, coral, shells, river rocks, or driftwood.
- For something soft, add some pretty rolled or folded hand towels.
- Use trays, platters, baskets, or framed mirrors to anchor and contain the grouping.
- Use different sized clear glass jars for soaps, bath oil or salts, swabs, sponges, or cotton balls.
- Arrange most of the smaller items on the tray (to pick up and easily move for cleaning). Set taller pieces behind. Group them together for a visually appealing vignette.
- Resist the urge to put clutter back on the counter. Remind yourself, (as you look at your display), how nice it looks.
without the clutter.
Enjoy those beautiful bathrooms, it’s a place you wake up to every morning, and see before you retire at night. Make it that peaceful, relaxing and stress free environment to began or end the day in. Simple touches make a big difference in creating calm…just what I need, how ’bout you?
What have you done to beautify the bath? Do you have any other ideas to share? We love any and all comments, ideas or chit chat!
