Ultimate Blog Party 2009

HG Openhouse is so excited about participating in this year’s Ultimate Blog Party. We love parties! At HG we are all about entertaining and loving our homes.

Hi, my name is Deb and I’ve been blogging for HG Openhouse a little over two years. We are passionate about decorating our homes, and treasure hunting at HomeGoods fuels our passion. At HG Openhouse you will find decorating and entertaining tips, organizing ideas, recipes, beautiful photos, and great discussions. If you would like to know a little more about me and see some of my other posts click here

Today I want to share with you a fabulous find . . . a glass bowl with endless possibilities. I am normally attracted to decor that gives my home an Early American/Primitive feel. Although this bowl is quite modern in its design, I just couldn’t resist adding it to my decor.

Limiting my ideas to Springtime possibilities I quickly came up with four ideas. I also think that a fruit salad, candy, or snacks would be beautifully presented in this dish.

I love the way a small change like this can make me fall in love with a corner of my home all over again. I tend to bore quickly if the things around me stay the same for too long. I love decorating for the various seasons and holidays, and if I can’t come up with a legitimate excuse I will move things around just for the sake of shaking things up a little.

Small changes in our environment can make a huge difference in our attitudes about our homes. With many of us watching our pennies and staying at home a little more, it amazes me it only takes a few items . . . like the glow of candlelight, a lovely flower arrangement, or wrapping up in a blanket with a good book to make my home my sanctuary.

So, of course I would love it if you would enter in the conversation. What little things do you do to make your home your sanctuary? I am also very curious to know what you would do with my glass bowl. Please share your ideas, I really would like a list of endless possibilities.

Oh BTW, if I win - I am lovin’ prizes 2, 119, and 89.

LOVE IT Do you LOVE IT?

3. I found your blog through the party and I love it! I’m engaged and have been working on making our apartment more home-y for the last 9 months or so… it’s a slow process when you start with white walls and a minimal budget! I can already see this blog will be a great source of inspiration.

I love the little birdsnest in the glass bowl!

9. Deb, that is a great bowl. I can see it with greenery, bulbs and white lights for Christmas. It would be great in a bathroom filled with hand made soaps, too.

by Gail — 3/21/09 at 9:27 pm #

10. Hello! I was just referred to this site by my friend. I love this bowl. How can I find one? (This might sound like a silly question considering this is a HG site but maybe there is a trick to getting on using a stock number or something.)
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Will you please send a response to my email- I am not sure how this works.
Thank you :-)
Cassandra.

27. Hi, I am new to this blogging thing, but not new to Home goods. I have shopped there now for the past four years. My home is filled with many treasures, all found at HG. Maybe one day I will submit some photos. thanks for the invite.

28. Hey Deb: I was over at the UBP site and found you there — I thought, ” I know her” – great post my friend. You sure know how to light up a room,
joan

29. Well, my idea will likely make everyone shudder, but here goes. My first thought was how cute this would look on my kitchen counter filled with cat food. I’m in the very unhygienic habit of feeding my cats on one of my kitchen counters (To be honest, that cats are up there half the time anyway and this is the only way I can keep my fat little Schipperke from getting into it).

31. Hey Jennifer, Glad you liked the bowl – so many things to do with it. I will go over and check out your site. Our son was the poster child for the St. Louis chapter of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation years ago. Thanks so much for stopping by and saying ‘hi.’

33. Thanks Joan! Isn’t this fun!?

by Deb — 3/24/09 at 12:19 pm #

34. Laurie, You have a fellow critter lover here, so that doesn’t make me shudder at all. Now, my husband might not get on board though. LOL I have a little Bichon who loves to get into all tidbits and morsels at her level. In fact, she has taken to licking the carpet constantly. She’s 13 and I think maybe getting a little daffy. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your comment!

by Deb — 3/24/09 at 12:22 pm #

35. Michelle, I look forward to coming over and saying hello at your site! Thanks for joining our little portion of the party!

37. What a great idea, Jingle! The cost of custom framing is quite high, and the frames at HG are beautiful! I’m sure your mom was thrilled. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your idea with us!
