scenes from my mother\'s garden

My Mother’s Garden

My Mother kept a garden,
a garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
that gave my life it’s start.

She turned me to the sunshine
and encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem.

And when the winds and rain came,
she protected me enough–
But not too much because she knew
I’d need to stand up strong and tough.

Her constant good example
always taught me right from wrong–
Markers for my pathway
that will last a lifetime long.

I am my Mother’s garden.
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me

2. Beautiful Joan,
What a lovely poem. It says it all. Also a wonderful picture of you and your mom. Her garden is gorgeous and I’m sure she’s most proud of her most prized and beautiful blossom…you!

I’ll have to write a message to my mom on paper. She does not have or use a computer, so I will do that before Mothers Day. Thanks for a day brightener.

Enjoy your wonderful family.

3. Wow…what a lovely writing!! I am sure your Mother just loves it being that she loves gardens. My dear Mother would have loved it also..I lost her last year and Mother’s Day is so difficult for me. This will be my second Mother’s Day without her. Every year we used Mother’s Day to mark the beginning of flower time!! I gave her money for Mother’s Day and she would say “this money is for my flower fund”. As soon as the weather permitted we would go looking for flowers that we wanted to plant in our gardens and hang on our patios. It was our special time together and I miss her so much when I go and buy my flowers to plant. I am going to begin the same tradition with my daugher when she is old enough.

Thank you again for sharing this beautiful writing. I also love looking at the photos of your Mother’s garden. I only wish I could look closer at all of the beautiful flowers and smell them.

4. Hi Margie:
Your flower shopping expeditions sound just like what I do with my mom and sister so I can only imagine how much you must miss your mom this time of year. How lovely to look forward to doing it with your own daughter one day. In the meantime, what a lovely garden of memories you have of your mom !! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories here — I’m sure there are many others who are missing their moms this Mother’s day too!! Drop by again.
