Bedroom I have been struggling with a problem for what seems like years! We love our king-sized bed! Especially since we added a two inch thick pressure sensitive topper. It is soooo comfortable! So, what’s the problem you ask?

Well, when you add a thick mattress topper to an already deep mattress, it becomes impossible to find bedding that actually covers all the way around. I tugged, I pulled, I stretched, and I still always had blankets and a little edge of exposed mattress on one side or the other.

Bedding Most quilts and comforters ran a little too narrow. I would opt to leave the blankets exposed on the far side of the bed. At least on that side someone would have to be snooping in the windows to discover my decor challenge! ;-)

This week I found a burgundy matelasse bedspread that matched my bedskirt. It hangs over the edges all the way around! Yeah!! Now I can quickly and easily change the look of our room by changing the quilts and pillows.

Purchasing a bedspread solved my problem. If you have a queen-sized bed or smaller, you can always purchase a quilt, comfoter, or coverlet one size larger than your bed. However, if you share my dilemma look for a ligiht weight bedspread to solve your blanket exposure problem.

Whether we like it or not, the bed is the focal point of our bedrooms. Making it inviting does not have to be costly. A quilt, a new pillow, a throw in a complimentary color all add to the feel of comfort and help to make it the retreat we long for when we are looking to relax.

1. I stayed at a fancy hotel in NYC and they used flat sheets instead of fitted ones. I also used my fitted sheets just on the topper–instant bed making in both cases!

4. I basically did the same thing because my husband is on one side of the bed and he usually pulls the top sheet and blanket out at the foot of the bed so now all i do when i make the bed is not tuck it under on his side and i use a queen size bedspread and the bedskirt and it looks great.

5. You can find the fitted and flat sheets for the extra deep mattresses at Bed Bath and Beyond. They have them to fit up to 25″. They are a bit more expensive.

8. Carol, It sounds like your husband is tall like mine. By the time they stretch out - well, so much for tucking! LOL Having a bedspread makes the morning easier, and keeps me from tugging in every direction. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

9. Dee, It is good to know that those extra deep sheet sets are readily available. It’s frustrating when the fitted sheet creeps up the side and slides off the top. I have also discovered that the knit sheets are great, because they have extra stretch built in . . . I also love the way they feel. Thanks for a great tip.

11. Hi Marlene,
Good question! I have found that many places carry mattress covers and finding deep ones has become less difficult. I have found my last couple at HG. My suggestion would be to measure the depth of your mattress, and use that as your guide when making your selection. Most often they will mark the label with the amount of depth that can be tolerated. Blessings, hope you find exactly what you are looking for.
