The happy coupleAs we all know, June is a popular wedding month. The weather’s nice, flowers are in bloom and romance is in the air. What’s not to love for a wedding?  Besides the happy couple, I love to look at the flowers and decorations. A weddings not a wedding without them. But flowers are more than pretty things to look at. They represent, embody and symbolise love itself…growing from something small into a beautiful thing.

Any flowers are wonderful, but I particularly love white flowers for a wedding. They look pure, clean and visually captivating, so perfect for a wedding. I was looking through some recent pictures I’ve taken, and found a few beautiful bouquets beckoning for betrothal (sorry, I get carried away with alliteration).  Many of these arrangements could be designed on a budget. Just add more greenery and less flowers for equivalent impact. Or showcase one impressive flower, fruit, or foliage in inexpensive clear glass vases to magnify their magnificence.

Wedding flowersThese arrangements, to the left, have a casual but creative elegance. One is sculptural and contained. The other is open and airy.

Informal...FormalTo the right, this first one is informally and beautifully unarranged. The other is formal and stately.

Orchid and LilliesA single beautiful orchid stem in a tall vase is chic and impressive. The lillies are lying relaxed in an elegant curve.

Simple but elegantA simple green apple is elevated on a pedestal and enhanced within glass. Tall leaves, lillies and rocks are encased in a tasteful terrarium.

While were on the subject of weddings, I’m always at a loss for a practical, useful or personel wedding gift. I’ve come up with a few that might be welcomed, but we’d love to hear your ideas.

Here’s a few I like…

  • Wedding gift ideasA recipe box or book filled with favorite meal recipes from both sides of the family.
  • Frame the wedding invitation that you get in a beautiful frame and give it to the couple.
  • Buy or make a beautiful afghan and add their monogram to the edge.
  • Roll up some quality towels, hotel style, and stack them in a basket to be hung on the wall or placed on or under the vanity.
  • Take 3-5 photographs of the couple casually outdoors, enlarge in black and white and mat and frame them to hang in their home.

Those are just a few I’ve thought of. Please add to the list of unique wedding gifts. We’d love to hear more.

Weddings are an affair of the heart. If you’re planning one or invited to one, revel in the majesty of the moment. It’s a celebration of happiness and joy.

1. Loved all your ideas and pictures…beautiful!!!!
Perhaps the best gifts I’ve given to couples getting married are:
1. Frames….they will have many pictures to display after their wedding
2. Interest-focused gifts…..ice cream maker, travel book or honeymoon kit (sunscreen, underwater camera, aspirin, sunglasses etc)
3.” Our first Christmas together” ornament……buy ahead and make sure there is no year printed on it!
4. Coupons for cooking lessons for one meal or for doing home repairs
5. A faith based Relationship Book
6. Small scrapbook made up so all they have to do is add the photos

2. Hey Julie,

I love all your ideas!! I think personalizing a gift to the couple is always a thoughtful and creative way to go. They will feel like you’ve really put some thought into their gift and remember you for your efforts.

Thanks for all your great gift idea additions. They would make any couple happy to be the recipient.

Thanks for taking the time to add to the subject.
