We passed the first day of Summer last weekend, and it feels like someone turned the heat on. With the heat index over 100  it is simply too hot to spend time outside during the day. We run from building to car back to building very thankful for air conditioning.

If we’re going to spend any time outside it is in the evenings. Once the sun goes down and the occasional breeze kicks up we are ready to relax on the patio.

There is a sentence at the top of the home page that says; I believe every room should have a candle and a cozy throw. I believe that statement is true even if the living space is outside. I find it much more pleasant to enjoy outdoor evenings with candles glowing rather than with lightbulbs blazing.

A few weeks ago, I was visiting my local HG store, and began talking with a wonderful shopper in the candle aisle. She was looking for candles to use on her patio, and asked my opinion. I thought her selections were great, but said that I thought it would add a nice touch to place pebbles around the candle to give it an outdoor feel. Shells work nicely also, and I’ll bet that you have an idea or two to share about other possibilities. She also found toss pillows and a throw just to bring the feel of comfort to the outdoors. I would have loved to see pictures of the finished product.

Many of you know that I love a Colonial look, hence our small collection of lanterns. They make a beautiful display when placed all around the patio. Add a fire in the fire-pit on a cool evening (oh, how we would love a cool evening), and the atmosphere is complete.

Okay, it’s time to get those outdoor spaces ready for your holiday celebrations next weekend. Have fun, and let us know what you do to make your outdoor space company friendly.
