country gathering roomMy sister and I are the quintessential city mouse and country mouse.  While I like the city lights and transitional decor, she enjoys small town living with a country flair.

Over the past few months she and her husband have been turning their dated parlor into a country gathering room and I knew that some of you country mice out there would love to see what they’ve done to the place so far.

gathering roomThey removed layers of wallpaper and put up bead board  half way up the wall.  They also removed  the old worn carpet and put down a wood laminate floor, added a new doorway to open up the back of the room and slip covered the old couches.  A small electric fireplace was moved in for some ambient glow.  You might recognize the great rooster lamp from HG (a fun find when she was visiting here earlier this year).

The paint color is Benjamin Moore’s khaki on top with one of the lighter shades on that chip for the bottom trim.

It’s a work in progress — we’re all keeping an eye out for the perfect area rug and some more lamps and new curtains but so far I think it’s becoming a great little nest for my sister the country mouse.

Are you a country mouse our a city mouse when it comes to your home decor?
