finally all decked out 002With a very rainy spring here in New England and a busy work/travel schedule I’ve been very slow to get our roof deck outfitted for summer  but at long last it’s finally ready to enjoy.

Last summer my husband replaced the deck floor and this year I’ve had the fun of furnishing and decorating it. Let me show you what I’ve done.

teak chaise loungers

We really like to stretch out and relax up on our deck so we purchased two teak  chaise lounge chairs with cushioned pads in a deep green to match our umbrella.  The wheels on the back of these chairs make them easier to reposition as needed.  When we have a party we can lay them flat and push them against the deck wall for bench seating.  They’ve got great little pull-out trays to hold a drink, glasses, book etc.   I added a couple of leafy accent pillows which are great for propping up my neck when reading (click on photos for a closer look).

granite topped cafe table

The cafe pedestal was a rescue from the junk pile and we had a granite top cut for the table top.   This is perfect for our own outdoor dining and/or as a serving surface when we have a larger crowd.

My favorite part of the deck is my window box garden.  This year I decided to create a box (or 2 or 3) of each color on the color wheel — it has made for a very colorful garden.   Check out this post for the secrets to my beautiful blooms.  I’m up to 13 window boxes now plus the table top pot and an urn.

And of course no deck would be complete without some decorative touches.  New this year are my white cast iron church candle lantern and my stone bird poised for flight.  I also found this great little ceramic doggie drinking bowl at HomeGoods which was the perfect size for our little papillon, Duke.  These inexpensive decorative touches make me smile.

Have you got your deck all decked out for summer? What decorative  touches have you added to personalize your deck?
