Here in our little corner of the world it is almost time to go back to school. Most of our students will be back in classes within the next couple of weeks. Although my own children are adults, I still like to look at photos and read articles about the various ways to decorate sleep and study spaces. Maybe it’s the former teacher in me or remembering my own days in school. I recognize the importance of using every inch carefully because every single inch is treasured space.
I would like to share with you a few sites that will give you ideas for decorating your child’s room whether they are still at home or away at school. I have also found a list of ideas for things they might need as they prepare for the year ahead.
The first site is – Ohdeedoh. It is a sister site to Apartment Therapy. The photos of loft bedrooms are fabulous! They are fun, with bright colors, and an extrememely efficient use of space.
I also liked – DigsDigs, Student Room Furniture. I liked that this site has different photos of rooms for different aged children. They range from very cute little girl and boy rooms to extremely well organized spaces for older students.
One more with beautiful photos – Kid’s Rooms Designs at Home-Designing.com. Once again great photos which show an extremely efficient use of space.
Remember while you are visiting the sites listed above, go ahead and do a little exploring. Each overflows with photos that give quick visuals for some things you might want to try at your house. Also, take a moment and savor those perfect kid’s rooms, because from my experience once a child, teen, or young adult lives there . . . .they probably will not look like the pictures!
Finally – Suite.101 Dorm Room Decorating. This helpful list suggests things your student will probably need as they prepare for the upcoming year. The thing I liked here was that they offered ideas, but left lots of room for creativity.
In fact, I would like to close today with a quote from their article. “Be creative and have fun. Express yourself and make it a place you will love coming home to after a hard day of hitting the books.”
1. Thanks for the sites! We are buying a new home and want to create a study room for our two kids (four and eight). I have about a month to get it decorated. Thanks for the tips!

2. Hi Bridget, I am so glad this info helped. I tend to get into a rut with my decorating. I know when it came to kids rooms, I would go into a furniture store and lose all sense of imagination. I think that’s why I loved these ideas. Nothing usual about these student rooms. Let us know all about your finished project.

4. Hi Catina, Thanks! Isn’t it great! I found this photo at Ohdeedoh, a sister site to Apartment Therapy. The link to the furniture line is http://www.tumidei.it/home_eng.htm Hopefully they will be able to give you some ideas about where you can find it, or something similar. It certainly is a great utilization of space!!
