Our family is getting very excited about the start of football season. Having lived in different areas of the country, we have a list of teams we follow and a few for whom we consider ourselves avid fans. The Pro Preseason is here, and college begins in just a few weeks. I thought this might be a good time to start talking about getting ready for tailgating parties and gameday entertaining.
I found a list of Tailgating needs at About.com. I’ll bet you’ve figured out by now that I like that site. They really do have helpful information on a plethora of topics. If you need to make sure you are fully stocked to begin the pre-game festivities check out the Ultimate Tailgating Checklist. Some of the items I thought were great – radio, tickets
, playing cards, umbrella, canopy, and antacids! Of course no tailgating party is complete without all of your favorite team paraphernalia!
AllRecipes.com has a great list of tasty treats to try. Some sound easy and can be prepared in advance, others are for those more skilled in the kitchen. Tailgating Recipes is the link to page after page of tempting taste sensations. I think the Chocolatey Football Bites and the Football Cheeseball sound delicious!
MyRecipes.com offers a couple of great pages of yummy fare. 9 Tailgating Menus and The Essential Tailgating Recipes are two more great locations for ideas if you are coming up short on things to create for game day. Finally MyRecipes also offers The Complete Tailgating Guide filled with great tips for keeping your outdoor food safe and tasty.
As you’re getting items together, don’t forget serving dishes, a tablecloth, napkins, potholders, wipes, and candles to keep the bugs away….
Now it’s your turn, I know you’ve got lots of great tips and ideas, and I am quite certain I have missed some very important items. Also, if you have a favorite game day recipe please share it with us here. Happy Football Season! Go Buckeyes!! Cheer here for your favorite team!!
1. I love Home Goods stores, however, i live in Williamsburg, VA. and there is no HG store. Could you please let me know if a store is planned for Williamsburg in the very near future.? You will have a bunch of happy shoppers.

2. I always am using AllRecipes when looking for food to serve for the superbowl. Ted and I have been having superbowls get togethers for 24 years. One was the day after I came home from the hospital from having Theo. We have food themes for our parties. Depending on where the football game is being held. Everyone brings somethings (I leave the chips and dip the younger kids. It’s fun because we have people from babies to the age of 75 there and everyone has a great time. I’l have to post my favorite picture from last year. It told the whole story. Look for the pictures on Facebook.

3. Hi Idelle,
At this time we have no plans for a new store in the Williamsburg, VA area. We may, however, in the future and suggest signing up for HomeGoods emails to keep you up to date on all the latest HomeGoods news.
Thanks,
Jessica

4. Idelle, I am coming to visit your beautiful city this Fall. We love our visits there. I agree it would be great to have and HG store in your growing community. I looked up our store finder hoping to find one close possibly in Newport News. It seems the closest is Virginia Beach. I too will be hoping your great city gets a HG store in the future.

8. I went to a big football party and they served the popcorn in individual bags and individual snacks that were bought prepackaged rather than in bowls. They did this because of the flu concerns. They had a very creative ideas for serving and it came off very cute.

9. JG, What a great suggestion! We are all looking for ways to avoid germs and stay healthy this year especially. Keeping fingers out of a shared snack bowl is important, and I don’t know if I would have ever thought about it! Thanks for passing along a wonderful healthy tip. Our readers are the best!!!!!

10. Idelle -
I recently found out that they will be opening a HG store in Williamsburg. I am unaware at this time of when the store will be opening. I believe it is currently slated for the later half of 2010.
