Do you ever dream about your next home? If you’re anything like me, you have a large file folder filled with floor plans and photos all ready to go! We love where we live now, but we would still like to downsize one more time and build that little colonial cottage someplace in the woods. How’s that for “pie in the sky by and by?” LOL It could happen!!
Of course the problem is finding our spot in the woods, downsizing is something we enthusiastically anticipate. When space is at a premium, multifunctional furniture becomes important. There are so many wonderful pieces now that serve a variety of purposes… bedframes that are platforms with drawers, ottomans and coffee tables with hidden storage, armoires that serve as entertainment centers or office space, storage benches, and tables and chairs with hidden cubbies and compartments.
I am finding it kind of fun to come up with ideas for ways to save on space without giving up any essentials. It fascinates me that one room homes used to be the norm. Now, I’m not advocating that kind of togetherness, but a great room, kitchen/gathering room, and a couple of bedrooms and baths sound like all the rooms this girl wants to clean.
How about you? How would you furnish a small space? Do you live in an apartment or condo that forces you to be organized? Is that cute cottage your idea of the perfect home? Tell us your thoughts, share your ideas, and enter in on ways to make your space and your furniture multifunctional.
1. Downsizing — if it works out. We just move into our newly built home after living at our other home 21 years. We “downsized” and it is 1,000 feet larger — OOPS!!

2. I understand that! I am so certain that I want to keep downsizing, but each time I add the elements that I believe are essential the feet add up to more square footage that I think. Enjoy your new home, Linda, and please share with us your decorating progress.
