Office Chair When I’m not sitting at my computer with fingers flying over the keyboard, I am often found sitting in this corner with a good book. Maybe it’s because I spend so much time in my office, but this area tends to get makeovers almost as often as I do. LOL

The plush red throw is the most recent addition. I was hoping it would be a perfect match to red pillows I had, but that was not to be. I loved the throw both the feel and the color and didn’t want to return it. So, I went searching through the house and found this pillow that picked up the colors of the room, and added a little pop of yellow.

We have enjoyed such gorgeous cool weather here in the Midwest, that I am starting to prepare our home for Fall.  One of the things I have been noticing is that I tend to decorate in the same colors I like to wear. I actually think that’s a good idea. If we want our clothing to heighten our beauty; don’t we want our homes to do the same?

Do you know your color palette? I am a Winter with a touch of Summer. That means I look the best in variations of jewel tones. As I’ve looked around our home I have used the same colors throughout. Hence the rich red throws. I am especially excited about the Fall and Winter trends in color this year, as they seem to be showing luscious purples, reds, blues, and golds. Mmmmm! I love it!

If you find that you are a Summer, you would simply look for lighter shades of those colors in the Winter palette. If a Spring you would lean toward pastels, but in the same color families, and a Fall palette would take those colors and add a touch of warmth. By using variations of the season’s color trends, you keep things current yet do so with the shades that work best for you. Color Connections is a site that does a great job of helping you identify your best colors, for both fashion and home decorating. The link above goes to their interior decorating pages.

Are you a person who loves to keep up with the latest trends, and changes things up frequently? If so, you will like the AOL Shopping pages that give the Fall Fashion Color Trends. I think I need that purple hat on the first page!!

When choosing colors for your wardrobe or your decor remember that you want to choose the colors that are most flattering to you personally. So, when you’re trying to decide on a wall color, a good place to start is with your favorite outfit. You can always go a shade or two lighter or darker as needed. If you don’t want to get that bold on the walls, go with a more neutral color there and accessorize with that color. It makes you look FABULOUS!!

1. I enjoy reading the articles, taking the test and checking-out all the finds that others have located. But, I have yet been able to review a catalog, prices of items. Do I contact the stores? Now, Deb I still don’t like that pillow or throw with your chair. Try something in blue tones not to dark or lavenders with a hint of peach! Now that looks great.

2. This looks like a cozy corner setting. I have a similiar one with a camel color chair and a dark red throw. The table next to it always has my needed supplies: a pair of scissors, a nail file, some toothpicks, the coaster, the cat brush and my crossword puzzles nearby. I call it “Command Central.” :) Thanks. :)

3. Hi Jill, I’m glad you’re enjoying HG Openhouse. Wasn’t the test fun? You didn’t tell what your style turned out to be. HomeGoods doesn’t have a catalog. The company carries great items at great prices in stores only. I hope you have a store close by, if not you can try the store locator link to see if you can find something not too far away. Thanks for your pillow suggestions. I change things like pillows about as often as I change my hair, LOL so I’ll keep your ideas in mind. Glad you stopped by and hope you visit often.

4. Barb, I love it! Command Central!! I may borrow that one! Thanks! My table always has my stack of books, the remote, and I am only steps away from my desktop: email and FB. Oh yes and all of my writing. Thanks Barb, what a fun comment!!

5. Hi again Deb, I moved to this area recently so only just found out that there’s 2 HG stores, both an hour away, but am planning to check them out ASAP! I moved from Md., and used to frequent a HG store there all the time and take all my visitors there as well. :) I have found many nifty items to assessorize my different homes with. I don’t have a patent on “Command Central”….I’ll share it with you. :) Barb

7. Barb, I’m glad you’ve found your closest HG stores. I’ll bet you’ll have some great outings combining HG with a full day of shopping and other errands. It seems it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, I am always looking to add a little sparkle to my home and HG is my go to source. Thanks for sharing “Command Central.” Much gets accomplished in those little corners of our worlds. Great to hear from you again so soon. Have a wonderful weekend!!

8. I recently visited my very first HG store, but it said Marshall’s HG. Then I found another one that said TJMaxx HG. My sister-in-law tells me that they have a HG store near them, but it is only called HG. Are these three stores related?

Thanks.

9. Hi Diane,

Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright are all owned by the same parent company, The TJX Companies, although they do run as separate divisions.

Thanks for your inquiry.

Sincerely,

Jessica
