As we get into the swing of Fall activities, I thought I’d toss out a suggestion for one more. I know the last thing you need is one more activity. I promise this is fun!!
I belong to a writer’s group which meets monthly. We get together and share our articles, book ideas, poetry, and dramas; we critique (mostly encourage) each other, and give suggestions on what we might do with our creations. It’s a great time! Lot’s of good discussion, some healthy laughter, and I always come home refreshed and relaxed.
So, I’ve been considering starting one more group. A Book Club Plus! I don’t really like that name; so, I would love some suggestions?!? The evening would go like this: A group of six to ten friends get together to discuss a book recommended by one of the gals. (So far it sounds like any other book club) The twist is that each month we would bring books to swap. I don’t know about you, but I always have a few books that I’ve read laying around accumulating dust. And you know how I hate to dust! The topper on the evening would be that each gal would bring a dish to share; an appetizer, dessert, or a bottle of wine. Of course, you must bring a copy of the recipe for everyone, unless it is your turn to bring wine.
Years ago I belonged to a Craft Club. Each month we would learn a different craft. Sometimes we would bring in a guest teacher, but most of the time we would just teach each other things we knew how to do. We had bunches of fun; it is always great to get together with the Girls!
Now it’s your turn. Remember I need a name for my Club, and if you have any other suggestions for an excuse to get together . . . you must share! You know how we girls like to be in the know!!
1. Hi Deb: Your book club sounds fun and what about calling it “Food for thought”?
II will suggest a GREAT novel for your group to read. It’s “Gilead” by Marilynne Robinson. And the sequel is “Home”. Great stories to both read and discuss.

2. i so envy you. you have the courage to do what you want with your life. also you must live in a really cool place. i live in a city environment and i feel that i am a misplaced person. don’t get me too wrong here, i love living here, but my heart belongs in the country (anywhere in USA). i love the fact that you are starting a new book club-type get-together with friends. a name for your club? try: “Things I Love” to do with friends…
I can always pretend to be a part of a group like yours because i don’t have the courage to do what you do. i am too shy, to a fault. not a people person. i do crafty things and read…not a great cook, but enjoy trying new things. i am in the process of redecorating my home, at present working on powder room on 1st floor, will be starting on the living room/office shortly, then kitchen. my goal is to finish with my bedroom (2nd floor).
Sorry, i just realized that i am rambling on and on. just wanted you to know that i applaud you and your club. keep up the good work.

4. Hi Nancy, Thanks so much for your comment!! Believe it or not I was very shy growing up. We live in the suburbs of a large city. I guess my advice to you would be to try one new thing each month or even each week. See if your library or a local book store offers a Book Club, or check on activities at local churches. You mentioned you like to do crafts, so I would recommend going to craft stores in your area and look for classes that you find interesting. The more you get out with people the more confidence you will discover. Not every experience will be great, but each success brings the courage to try again. Blessings and please let me know how you are doing.
We would also love to hear about the progress you are making with your decorating. I think powder rooms are a fun place to start because the space isn’t overwhelming. I’m so glad you are visiting HG Openhouse you will get lots of ideas here.
I do hope you will keep in touch.

5. How about “Love Between the Covers” for your book club+? A tad provocative, but kind of a fun play on words. Not all that descriptive (or TOO descriptive?), but it just came to me and I had to share. Hope I didn’t violate the code of conduct! I actually like the other suggestions better.
I love HG Openhouse and I really, really need inspiration. Great to get new ideas and you are so talented! Thanks for being there for those of us who are decorating-challenged.
