I know I’ve been going on and on about storage containers the past few months  (call it an occupational hazard or fall nesting syndrome) but I’ve been running across so many great ideas for decorative storage that I have to keep sharing them. The latest is using cups to store small stuff.

Using pretty tea-cups and saucers for jewelry storage is a neat idea I picked up from Martha Stewart.  I love the idea of multiples in a drawer, but you could also use a single decorative cup and saucer on your bedside table or top of your dresser or in the bathroom etc. to collect your jewelry in those places you typically remove it.

Over at re-nest I found chipped teacups re-purposed in a medicine cabinet.

At Blissfully Domestic I spotted these darling little egg cups used to organize small bits and pieces on the desk.

And last but not least, at Apartment Therapy I spotted a whole collection of vintage white  cups and creamers used to store left over bits of yarn.

So, if you have some spare cups that you’ve been wondering what to do with, why not re-purpose them as storage containers?   What special things do you store in your spare cups?

1. I love this idea! Certainly looks better than the ugly plastic squares I’m using now. I’m off to shop the house for teacups, and if I don’t find what I need, I’m heading to Goodwill!

2. Always good to shop and home and thrift stores too. Don’t forget to check out the clearance shelf at HG for chipped or mis-matched china as well, it usually goes for a song!

3. I have had a special teacup in my cupboard unappreciated for years. Just a few months ago I decided to use it on my desk for paperclips and now I get to look at it every day!

4. I recently did this – a really pretty teacup to hold my daughter’s toothbrush and toothpaste on her counter – looks awesome!

5. Amanda: Thanks for sharing how you are using and enjoying your “special” teacup. Makes so much more sense for us to have our treasures out where we can see and appreciate them daily. Hopefully you’ll inspire others to do the same!

7. Thank great idea, I have been storing little things in small boxes. The cups are much more fancier and functional. another idea to make my life a little easier.
